Case Study: Thomson Reuters achieves a rapid, customer-driven data-visualization prototype for Web of Knowledge with Wazoku

A Wazoku Case Study

Preview of the Thomson Reuters Case Study

Thomson Reuters - Customer Case Study

Thomson Reuters wanted to improve its Web of Knowledge product but found traditional customer research slow, costly and often ineffective. Seeking unfiltered yet actionable customer insights, they ran a Two‑Step Challenge through InnoCentive: an ideation phase to capture creative use cases and a follow‑on development phase that quickly identified data visualization as a key opportunity.

The program yielded an elegant, well‑documented Java data‑visualization app from a solver in Hungary that could be tested and scaled with minimal in‑house effort. The Challenge attracted 8,292 visits and more than 900 participants, paid a $20,000 prize, and delivered a functioning prototype aligned to specification within months.
