Case Study: SPEED Project achieves accelerated cross-border smart-port innovation and collaboration with Wazoku

A Wazoku Case Study

Preview of the SPEED Case Study

SPEED - Customer Case Study

SPEED is a cross-border smart-ports initiative that brought together ports, academia, industry and start-ups across Belgium, France, the Netherlands and the UK to boost efficiency and innovation in port logistics. Facing pressure to become more competitive, Western European ports struggled with siloed information, limited uptake of data science and IoT solutions, and difficulties for high-tech SMEs to professionalize and scale their ideas.

To tackle this, SPEED launched an open co-creation portal on the Wazoku platform that connects port stakeholders, researchers and start-ups to match challenges with solutions. The portal—maintained by Bournemouth University—now hosts 250+ members, 17 partner organisations and 28 defined challenges, driving proof-of-concept projects, technology adoption across ports (including Antwerp, Portland and Poole) and recognition as an IAPH World Ports Sustainability Awards finalist.
