A Wazoku Case Study
Precyse Technologies, maker of active RFID “cell phones for things,” needed a way to reliably wake tags as products arrived without draining batteries, extend battery life past five years, and increase wireless wake-up range from the market standard of ~10 ft to about 100 ft — all without a costly, time-consuming R&D program. Rather than invest more than $1M, Precyse ran an open-innovation challenge through Wazoku (552 solvers, 30 solutions, 3 months, $25,000 prize) to find a faster, lower-cost approach.
The winning “passive wakeup” solution lets Smart Agent tags harvest energy from radio waves up to 100 ft away, extending battery life well beyond five years and enabling new features. The result is a market-ready product that triples passive wake-up range, lowers asset-tracking costs, improves customer workflows, and removes key range limitations that hinder competitors.
