GSK - Customer Case Study

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a science-led global healthcare company, sought to evaluate bioelectronics as a potential new class of treatments but needed to identify the best disease “test bed” — conditions with significant neural-control elements — and wanted broader expertise than their internal teams alone could provide. To avoid missing promising angles before committing substantial resources, they turned to InnoCentive’s global Solver community.

An InnoCentive Challenge engaged 397 solvers and generated 66 submissions; the winning entry, from a Bulgarian solver citing a Mexican publication, highlighted a proof-of-principle area GSK had not flagged, despite a modest $5,000 award. The exercise expanded GSK’s view of who is active in the field, built ongoing collaboration with the winners, and complemented their Bioelectronics R&D sourcing to ensure diverse thinking from the outset.
