Case Study: Copenhagen FinTech achieves global fintech collaboration to bank the unbanked with Wazoku

A Wazoku Case Study

Preview of the Copenhagen FinTech Case Study

A tech alliance works to help bank the unbanked

Copenhagen FinTech partnered with CARE Denmark to tackle a persistent problem: large swathes of nomadic and rural populations in Niger lack access to cash, loans and basic banking services. Using its network of fintech startups and industry experts, the alliance sought sustainable, scalable financial solutions for the unbanked in low-connectivity environments.

They launched an open innovation challenge on the Wazoku platform, drawing thousands of global contributors and awarding €13,500 to the winning proof-of-concept from hiveonline — a decentralized, blockchain-enabled mobile wallet that provides finance via mobile data without bank records. Nine proposals were judged for novelty, feasibility and impact; the winning solution has potential to scale to similar unbanked and disconnected populations worldwide.
