A Waycare Case Study
The Nevada Highway Patrol implemented Waycare in 2018 to improve incident identification, response times, and cross-agency collaboration. NHP’s Southern Command in Las Vegas faced challenges sharing real-time traffic and incident data with partner agencies (FAST, FSP, maintenance) because of disparate systems and heavy reliance on 911/CAD reports, which often produced misreported locations and under-reporting.
Waycare’s Proactive Response platform—accessible via mobile digital computers, tablets, and desktops with live maps, CCTV integration, icon-based alerts, and looped GIFs—gave officers precise locations and richer context before arriving on scene. As a result, Waycare helped NHP identify incidents an average of 9 minutes faster, supported a pilot that slowed 91% of speeding drivers and reduced crashes by 17%, and produced a 47% drop in reported incidents at one strategic site; the program also secured a $188,970 Road to Zero grant and is being expanded to NHP’s northern command.
