ONGC builds 55 km offshore wireless link with Wavesight

The customer, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), a major energy company, faced the challenge of establishing reliable, high-capacity communication across its widely distributed offshore oil platforms and onshore facilities, where deploying fiber optic cable was complex. To support critical operations and enterprise applications, ONGC partnered with vendor Wavesight to implement a scalable industrial wireless network using their Scorpion microwave radio solutions.

Wavesight's solution involved deploying rugged, long-range point-to-point microwave links to create a resilient wireless backhaul network over the sea. This implementation successfully established seamless connectivity, including a 55 km link achieving 370 Mbps throughput, enabling real-time monitoring, VOIP, and data services. The results significantly reduced dependence on physical fiber, provided a low-maintenance infrastructure, and created a credible, scalable network for ONGC's future needs, with over 200 Wavesight radios now deployed across their locations.
