Pioneer Enables Agile Ajax Development with Wavemaker

Pioneer Natural Resources, an $8 billion oil and gas exploration and production company, relied on two aging submittal applications—built on different codebases and databases—for field data capture and opportunity evaluation. The legacy systems were costly to maintain, lacked consistent offline capability, and required external contractors for changes, so Pioneer set out to modernize by consolidating the two apps into a single web-based solution maintainable by in-house staff.

Working with WaveMaker professional services and Pioneer developers using an Agile process, they built a modern Pioneer Submittals application that combined both systems into one web app with a common database, 15 pages, complex search, custom widgets, security roles, Excel upload and PDF reporting. Iterative releases improved usability and communication, reduced time and cost (reported at roughly half compared with the legacy rewrite), and delivered in-house maintainability, better productivity and tighter data security.
