How WaveMaker Got Faster, Better, More Agile with Docker

WaveMaker, a Rapid Application Development platform, faced scaling and operational challenges as its developer community and trial workloads grew rapidly. A monolithic build process, high resource consumption to support thousands of users, and complex upgrade and migration operations limited release velocity and threatened to overwhelm their operations team.

WaveMaker adopted Docker containers, a microservices architecture, a hibernation strategy and a proprietary Volume Layer for portable data to simplify deployment, improve resource utilization and enable automated orchestration via WaveMaker Enterprise. The changes let them serve ~2,500 developers and 4M app hits with ~37,000 containers while achieving dramatic gains — roughly 30x higher app density, 50x faster instance launches (480s to ~10s), ~96% lower VM density and up to ~80% lower costs — plus faster daily builds, easier upgrades and improved backup/recovery.
