A WaterSmart Case Study
Park City Water Department in Park City, Utah had invested in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to capture real-time water use, but struggled to realize the promised leak-detection benefits and improve customer engagement. After Water Conservation IT Coordinator Jason Christensen joined the utility, he explored building a customer portal in-house but ultimately partnered with WaterSmart to address the city’s unmet need for reliable leak alerts and an easy way to connect residents with their AMI data.
WaterSmart delivered white-labeled Home Water Reports, a Customer Portal and Utility Analytics that integrated smoothly with Park City’s AMI and billing systems. Launched to 4,200 customers in May 2014, the program sent more than 150 leak alerts in the first three months—70% were resolved within ten days—and now provides about 5,200 customers portal access. The result: higher customer engagement, faster leak response, easier customer support, and improved overall satisfaction.
