Lytchett Minster School - Customer Case Study

Lytchett Minster School and Sixth Form, an education customer in the United Kingdom, needed a modern IT infrastructure to support growing network demands, digital learning, and up to 800 concurrent users with different internet access needs. The school’s existing internet service only provided blanket filtering, with no way to customize access by time or user, which restricted both pupils and staff. WatchGuard was brought in to help, using the WatchGuard XTM 820 and X10e.

WatchGuard implemented firewall protection with the XTM 820 and X10e, giving the school flexible policy-based security, web filtering, spam protection, virus protection, remote access, and real-time visibility through WatchGuard Dimension. The result was a more efficient, centralized security setup that allowed staff to access resources freely while controlling student access appropriately. The school also reported strong performance under heavy load, with the XTM 820 handling traffic reliably, supporting in-house services like website and email hosting, and providing protection against attacks including a denial-of-service event.
