Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services secures 1,200-kilometer remote network with WatchGuard

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS), an Aboriginal community-controlled health organization in remote Australia, faced significant challenges securing its expanding network. Their legacy Linux-based firewalls were complex to manage and created security gaps, especially for remote facilities. This issue was exacerbated during their rollout of Microsoft Office 365, which the old equipment could not properly support. To address this, KAMS turned to vendor WatchGuard for a new security solution.

KAMS implemented WatchGuard Firebox appliances at its headquarters and remote clinics, along with the WatchGuard Total Security Suite. The results were substantial: management became significantly easier through a graphical interface, reducing the need for on-site visits. The solution provided critical load-balancing and fail-over capabilities to maintain medical services during extreme weather outages and secured all traffic to and from their medical records data center. WatchGuard enabled KAMS to grow its network securely while maintaining full control and ensuring uninterrupted critical healthcare operations.
