City of Mechelen secures 1,800 employees across 35 sites with WatchGuard

The City of Mechelen, a municipality in Belgium supporting over 1,800 employees across 35 locations, needed to securely enable remote work for 550 users. Their challenge was to deliver secure LAN and Wi-Fi access to internal applications, ensure a good user experience, and find an affordable solution with automated reporting and reliable partner support. They issued an RFP to find a suitable vendor.

WatchGuard implemented a solution using their Firebox appliances and access points for network and wireless security. A key component was the clientless WatchGuard Access Portal, which provides secure, single sign-on access to internal applications via a reverse proxy. This was combined with WatchGuard's AuthPoint for multi-factor authentication. The results included increased security, greater employee productivity by enabling work from anywhere, and convenient centralized management with automated reporting for the IT team.
