Second-screen publics chats to gather and digitise Olympics’ viewers

The sports TV channel Match TV wanted to digitally engage its viewers of the Olympic games, providing a space for them to socialize and connect with each other while watching the broadcasts. To address this challenge, they partnered with the vendor Watchers.

Watchers implemented a mobile web chat solution that viewers accessed by scanning a QR code on their TV screen. This created a dedicated space for real-time discussion using text and animated emojis, supported by a three-layer moderation system to ensure a safe environment. The solution was a major success, generating approximately 100,000 active digital sessions with 90% of users joining via the QR code. Watchers delivered a stable platform with no technical issues, which helped foster a dedicated online community for the event.
