Santa Cruz County - Customer Case Study

The County of Santa Cruz Department of Public Works Solid Waste Division, which operates the Buena Vista Landfill and Ben Lomond Transfer Station and handles roughly 450 tons (600–800 transactions) per day, needed to modernize its scale and transaction systems to improve throughput and data management as it expanded facility capacity. The county was preparing a new, state-of-the-art scalehouse and wanted to ensure the site layout and infrastructure supported efficient operations and regulatory diversion goals.

Santa Cruz implemented WasteWORKS software and WasteWIZARD express-lane hardware as part of a new four-lane scale facility (two 30-ft and two 70-ft scales) with integrated wiring, conduits, and peripheral placement. The integrated solution streamlined transactions, supported tare and inbound transfer truck processing, and strengthened information management and automation—positioning the county for smoother operations and continued recognition for landfill and recycling excellence.
