A WasteWORKS Case Study
Prairie Lakes Municipal Solid Waste Authority (PLMSWA) is a joint powers group of five west‑central Minnesota counties and the City of Perham that manages regional solid waste services and the Perham Resource Recovery Facility (PRRF). After years of shifting county partners, a closed facility elsewhere, a planned expansion of PRRF, and large seasonal population swings, the authority needed to better coordinate curbside recycling, hazardous‑waste programs, transfer stations and facility operations across multiple jurisdictions and systems.
Otter Tail County migrated to WasteWORKS‑SQL and led an authority‑wide adoption of WasteWORKS to standardize data collection and enable electronic sharing among county transfer stations, the WTE facility, and administrative offices. The rollout created a unified data platform to improve operational coordination and reporting, support recycling and waste‑reduction efforts, and align with the PRRF expansion (100 to 200 TPD) targeted for completion in fall 2014.
