A WasteWORKS Case Study
Larimer County’s landfill, jointly owned with the cities of Fort Collins and Loveland and managed by Larimer County, operates near residential developments and must balance environmental monitoring, community relations and regulatory compliance. Facing new EPA requirements to report tonnages and install scales at its gatehouses, the landfill needed a way to capture weight data, consolidate inputs from multiple gatehouses, and speed up reporting without disrupting its long-standing cubic-yard charging system while continuing robust recycling and outreach programs.
To meet those needs the county upgraded to WasteWORKS‑SQL, networked its gatehouse computers, and installed three scales and the software’s Hold ticket feature to capture weights. The change eliminated daily data downloads, produced faster reports, ensured EPA reporting capability, and enabled analysis to inform whether to switch to weight-based billing—streamlining operations and improving decision-making while maintaining strong community and environmental programs.
