A WasteWORKS Case Study
Escambia County Solid Waste Department, which serves nearly 300,000 residents around Pensacola, Florida, was struggling with an overburdened two-lane scale facility as the county produced roughly 300,000 tons of waste per year and faced future growth that would worsen traffic and delays at the landfill.
In 2007 the county added a third scale lane and installed dual WasteWIZARD and Vision automation systems, creating a high-speed express lane for county and commercial vehicles while preserving the original lanes for customers needing more time. The upgrade significantly reduced wait times and congestion, increased throughput without adding staff, and complemented the county’s extensive recycling and education programs to help preserve landfill space and protect the environment.
