Butte-Silver Bow Landfill - Customer Case Study

Butte–Silver Bow (BSB) Landfill, a City–County operated Major Class II/IV facility near Butte, Montana, serves two counties with municipal, demolition and recyclable materials. The small seven‑person operation runs year‑round in extreme weather and high winds, and faces challenges from illegal dumping, variable seasonal demand, and the need for consistent, equitable tipping fees and better recycling infrastructure.

BSB implemented WasteWORKS–SQL to centralize data and operations, enabling a move from volume‑ to weight‑based billing, more reliable customer charges, and clearer tracking of recyclables. Combined with expanded hours, a summer Alley Rally convenience site and more on‑site recycling bins, the changes are improving billing accuracy, boosting recycling participation, helping extend landfill life and supporting community programs and site reuse.
