Case Study: Black Hawk County achieves increased efficiency and reduced wait times with WasteWORKS

A WasteWORKS Case Study

Preview of the Black Hawk County Case Study

Black Hawk County - Customer Case Study

Carolina Software’s WasteWORKS was deployed at two county solid waste operations facing different but related challenges. Leavenworth County, KS operates a 200TPD transfer station on a $2m/year gate-fee budget and was bogged down by manual weigh-in/out, printed tickets and hand-entered billing. Black Hawk County, IA’s landfill handles about 59,000 loads (~180,000 tons) from a five-county area but suffered hauler delays with only one inbound and one outbound scale.

The counties installed WasteWORKS and the WasteWIZARD Keypad Automated System, added a second outbound scale at Black Hawk, and used the software for billing, tonnage tracking and HHW estimates. The automation reduced wait times (drivers report 15–20 seconds on scale with no queues), processed 72% of tonnage and 40% of loads via keypad, improved productivity, site security and financial reporting, and earned strong praise for customer service and implementation support.
