Hines, the privately owned international real estate and property management firm, needed a better way to manage waste and recycling across its high-visibility commercial properties while supporting its sustainability goals. Waste Management’s Total Recycling Program (TRP) was used at the Wells Fargo Center in Sacramento, a flagship Hines property, to help improve diversion and align with the building’s LEED-certified, environmentally focused operations.

Waste Management implemented a dedicated on-site team to educate tenants, streamline recycling practices, and support an organic waste recycling program for the property’s restaurant. As a result, the Wells Fargo Center’s diversion rate increased by 60% and continued to improve, with Hines targeting a 75% landfill diversion rate. The success of the program also helped strengthen the partnership between Hines and Waste Management.
