Case Study: Alcoa recovers $500,000 in annual value with Waste Management resource recovery

A Waste Management Case Study

Preview of the Alcoa Case Study

Helping Alcoa pick up value right off the floor

Alcoa, working with Waste Management, faced a challenge at its Massena, New York plant: excess aluminum oxide was being swept off the factory floor and discarded because the team had no safe way to capture and reintroduce the fine powder back into the production process. The company needed a better resource recovery approach to reduce waste and recover value from this reusable raw material.

Waste Management designed and implemented a comprehensive resource recovery plan that enabled Alcoa to reclaim 20 to 25 tons of aluminum oxide each week. The program also supported landfill reduction goals and is generating an estimated $500,000 in annual discovered value, turning what was once waste into a profitable resource.
