Balfour Beatty, a major interior construction services provider in Texas, needed a way to manage construction waste sustainably while keeping projects on schedule. On a recent Houston office remodel for Choice Energy, the team worked with Waste Management and used its waste diversion and tracking capabilities to support both LEED and non-LEED goals.

Waste Management implemented an environmental solutions plan that included LEED-rated dumpsters, frequent pickups, and its online Diversion and Recycling Tracking tool (DART) to monitor waste in real time. The result was a 90.5% diversion rate, with measurable environmental savings including 121,438 kilowatt hours of electricity, 338 barrels of oil, 113 mature trees, 86,018 gallons of water, and 133 cubic yards of landfill airspace conserved.
