Peterson gets control of consignment inventory, doubles off-site sales

Peterson Cat Tractor Company, a customer‑focused Caterpillar dealer in business since 1936, wanted to offer a consignment service that keeps parts on customers’ sites while Peterson retains ownership and management. The challenge was tracking off‑site inventory and replenishing stock when their existing Dealer Business System didn’t support barcode scanning, so they needed a mobile, easy‑to‑use barcoding solution that would integrate with their systems.

Peterson trialed and then deployed Wasp enterprise inventory software with handheld barcode scanners, labeling shelf locations and scanning parts usage during site visits, then syncing data to the central server to update the DBS, bill customers, and trigger restocking. The solution allowed Peterson to expand the consignment program to twice as many customers as planned, now tracking over 1,000 line items (more than 8,000 parts) across 15 sites, improving customer satisfaction and profitably growing their service business.
