Lone Star College Automates Asset Management for Big Savings

Lone Star College System (LSCS) is the largest higher-education institution in the Houston area, serving over 83,000 credit students and managing more than 30,000 IT assets across five campuses and seven centers. Asset tracking was decentralized—each location used its own Access databases or spreadsheets—making audits slow, error-prone and labor-intensive (up to three months and a team of 100 technicians/students) and prompting a system-wide need for accurate, centralized asset data.

LSCS implemented Wasp’s asset management software after finding competing options more expensive and less suitable. The college standardized naming conventions, populated a central SQL-backed database, and tagged assets with barcodes for quick lookup and ERP integration. Audits now require just three part-time students per location, deliver immediate system-wide visibility with complete accuracy, and significantly reduced complexity and training time.
