Cornell University Unlocks Sub-Account Visibility and Security with Wasabi Account Control Manager

Cornell University, a leading Ivy League research institution, needed a better way to scale backup and archive services across departments while controlling storage costs, simplifying internal billing, and improving visibility into sub-account usage. As its Central IT team managed a mix of on-premises, AWS, Azure, and shared file storage, cloud egress fees and manual account administration made it difficult to support customers efficiently. Cornell turned to Wasabi Technologies, using Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage alongside Wasabi Account Control Manager and Cohesity.

With Wasabi Technologies, Cornell University gained predictable, flat-fee cloud storage with no egress fees, helping eliminate the unpredictable costs tied to frequent restores. Wasabi Account Control Manager gave Central IT a top-down view of customer storage, simplified invoicing, and let departments manage their own buckets, users, and groups, while Object Lock added immutable backup protection. The result was greater visibility, stronger security, and major savings—Cornell cited roughly 300–400 notable restores a year and about 2 petabytes in Wasabi, with very few support tickets.
