Amid Steady File Server Growth, Toshiba Lowers Costs 30% with Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage

Toshiba, one of the world’s leading electronics manufacturers, was facing rapid file server growth and rising management costs as its internal data footprint grew to 1 PB and continued increasing about 10% per year. Much of this data was rarely accessed, but Toshiba still needed to maintain a large on-premises NetApp environment, making future storage expansion expensive and inefficient.

To address this, Toshiba implemented Wasabi Technologies’ Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage through NTT Communications’ Wasabi Tiering for NetApp service, automatically moving cold data from NetApp to low-cost cloud storage while keeping hot data on-premises. This preserved the same user experience while reducing management costs by 30%, improving storage scalability, and lowering operational burden by eliminating the need for file servers in each department.
