Zenobē delivers 1.4 GWh of energy storage with Wärtsilä Energy

Zenobē, a UK-based energy company, faced the challenge of integrating renewable energy into the grid and providing stability services as the UK phases out fossil fuel plants, all while meeting network demands and consumer cost expectations. To address this, they partnered with vendor Wärtsilä Energy to utilize their battery energy storage systems (BESS) and GEMS control and optimisation platform.

Wärtsilä Energy implemented multiple large-scale battery storage projects, including Blackhillock and Kilmarnock South, which provide critical stability services like short-circuit level and synthetic inertia to the UK's National Grid. The results were significant, including 1.4 GWh of new energy storage capacity, an expected £170 million in consumer savings, and the prevention of 2.6 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over 15 years. The solutions from Wärtsilä future-proofed the assets, unlocked new revenue streams, and supported the UK's transition to a net-zero power grid.
