Pure DC deploys 60 MW off-grid data centre microgrid with Wärtsilä Energy

Pure DC, a global data centre developer and operator, faced the challenge of ensuring reliable and resilient power for its Dublin facility amidst Ireland's constrained electricity grid. Partnering with Wärtsilä Energy, they sought to create Europe's first large-scale, off-grid data centre microgrid to achieve complete grid independence.

Wärtsilä Energy implemented a solution centered around six of its 34DF dual-fuel engines, which provide 60 MW of primary power with the support of a 20 MW battery storage system. This microgrid, delivered with system integrator AVK, ensures uninterrupted, mission-critical power, primarily running on gas with HVO backup. The system from Wärtsilä is also designed for future readiness, with hydrogen-blending and combined heat and power capabilities.
