PT. Indonesia Power boosts Bali grid reliability with Wärtsilä’s 200 MW flexible baseload plant

PT. Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of the state utility, faced the challenges of a rapidly growing electricity demand, base load fluctuations, and supply interruptions for the Java-Bali grid. To address this, they contracted Wärtsilä Energy to provide a 200 MW flexible baseload power plant utilizing Wärtsilä 50DF multi-fuel engine technology.

The solution implemented by Wärtsilä was a plant with 12 dual-fuel engines capable of running on LNG or heavy fuel oil, which could reach full load in under 10 minutes. This provided operational and fuel flexibility, ensuring a reliable electricity supply. The project achieved an output of 200 MW with over 48% thermal efficiency at any load, significantly improving grid reliability for Bali and supporting the region's gas security and renewable energy goals.
