PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) powers remote mining operations with Wärtsilä’s 137 MW plant

PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM), a leading Indonesian mining company, faced the challenge of ensuring a reliable electricity supply for its remote ferronickel smelting plant, which was not connected to a power grid and experienced significant load fluctuations. To overcome this, the company partnered with vendor Wärtsilä Energy for a tailored power generation solution.

Wärtsilä Energy implemented an efficient 137 MW multi-fuel engine power plant and provided long-term operational support, beginning with an 11-year Operations and Maintenance agreement that later transitioned to a Guaranteed Asset Performance (GAP) agreement. This solution ensured a consistent and reliable power supply, allowing ANTAM to fully concentrate on its core mining and smelting business. The partnership, which has been renewed for over two decades, has been critical in helping the facility maintain its annual production capacity of 26,000 tons of nickel.
