A Wärtsilä Energy Case Study
The Modesto Irrigation District (MID), a community-owned utility, faced challenges related to demand variation and the intermittency of its wind and solar power. To ensure grid reliability and optimize its entire generation portfolio, MID needed a flexible and efficient balancing solution. They turned to Wärtsilä Energy for a power plant solution.
Wärtsilä Energy implemented the Woodland 3 Generation Station, powered by six Wärtsilä 20V34SG gas engines. This plant provides 50 MW of fast-starting power, capable of synchronizing to the grid in under eight minutes. The solution provided MID with operational flexibility, significant fuel savings, and lower emissions, allowing its existing assets to run more efficiently and ensuring a reliable power supply.
