Case Study: GIGA Storage BV improves grid stability and cuts emissions with Wärtsilä Energy Storage

A Wärtsilä Energy Case Study

Preview of the GIGA Storage BV Case Study

GIGA Storage BV saves 11,000 tonnes of CO2 with Wärtsilä Energy

The customer, GIGA Storage BV, faced the challenge of facilitating the Dutch government's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reducing grid congestion from renewable energy growth, and regulating energy frequency to improve reliability. To address this, they worked with Wärtsilä Energy to implement a large-scale battery energy storage solution.

Wärtsilä Energy supplied a 25 MW / 48 MWh energy storage system using their Quantum BESS and the GEMS Digital Energy Platform. This solution, optimised by Wärtsilä’s Service+ GAP maintenance, saves up to 11,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, stores the equivalent annual consumption of over 9,000 households, and helps stabilise the Netherlands' electricity grid.
