EDL boosts mine power reliability with Wärtsilä’s 53 MW gas plant and 10-year service agreement

EDL, a global energy producer, faced the challenge of ensuring a reliable and cost-effective electricity supply for the remote McArthur River Mine in Australia's extreme heat. The power plant needed to handle high ambient temperatures up to 45°C and manage large, sudden load demands from the mine's operations. Wärtsilä Energy provided a solution using its efficient Wärtsilä 20V34SG gas engines.

Wärtsilä Energy delivered six gas engines with a total output of 53 MW on a fast-track schedule. The solution was backed by a long-term service agreement that was later renewed to a condition-based maintenance plan. This approach from Wärtsilä Energy maximized the plant's availability, ensured a reliable power supply, and reduced operating costs for EDL and their end customer.
