A Wärtsilä Energy Case Study
The customer, EDG (Electricité de Guinée), a government-owned utility in Guinea, faced a challenge with its severely degraded Kaloum 5 power plant, where its three generating sets were achieving only 48-67% of their rated power. Wärtsilä Energy was contracted to perform a complete engine overhaul and automation upgrade to restore the plant.
Wärtsilä implemented a comprehensive solution that included a complete overhaul of the engines and alternators, an upgrade of the automation systems, and modifications to the auxiliaries. As a result, the plant now runs at its full capacity of 10.4MW and enjoys an increased availability rate of 96-98%, significantly boosting grid stability and reliability for EDG.
