Clearway Energy Group deploys 497 MW / 2 GWh of storage with Wärtsilä Energy

The customer, Clearway Energy Group, faced the challenge of supporting the clean energy transition and providing grid reliability in California and Hawaii as these states increased their renewable energy generation. To address this, they partnered with vendor Wärtsilä Energy to utilize energy storage systems integrated with their solar facilities.

Wärtsilä Energy implemented a solution comprising a 497 MW / 1.9 GWh portfolio of energy storage systems, including their Quantum BESS and GEMS Digital Energy Platform. This provided essential grid stability, generated $18.5 million in local taxes, created over 500 union jobs, and helped reduce energy costs for Hawaiian residents by decreasing reliance on imported fossil fuels.
