AngloGold Ashanti saves $2 million with Wärtsilä Energy

AngloGold Ashanti's Geita Gold Mine in Tanzania required a highly reliable off-grid power source to support its transition to underground mining and to avoid production losses from power shortages. To meet this challenge, they partnered with Wärtsilä Energy for a dependable power generation solution.

Wärtsilä Energy implemented a turnkey EPC solution, delivering a 40 MW power plant featuring four Wärtsilä 32TS engine generating sets, and entered into a 10-year operation and maintenance agreement. This resulted in a reliable, uninterrupted power supply that eliminated revenue losses from outages and achieved significant fuel efficiency, saving approximately $2 million in fuel costs in 2019 alone.
