Aksa Enerji Uretim A.S lowers emissions and costs with Wärtsilä gas conversion in 2011

Aksa Enerji Uretim A.S, a major Turkish power producer, faced the challenge of reducing its power plant's exhaust gas emissions and operational costs in the environmentally sensitive Samsun region, while also maintaining its rated engine output. To address this, the customer worked with vendor Wärtsilä Energy on a gas conversion project for its seven W18V46 engines.

Wärtsilä implemented its GD concept, which converted the engines to run on natural gas with heavy fuel oil (HFO) as a backup. The solution included a comprehensive safety system and required only minor engine modifications. As a result, Wärtsilä helped Aksa Enerji significantly lower its operational costs, reduce exhaust gas emissions to meet local regulations, and achieve real fuel flexibility with a short payback time.
