Case Study: EBSI4RO advances digital diplomas and micro-credentials with walt.id

How EBSI4RO Connecting Romania through Blockchain” and walt.id will enable universities and other educators to adopt digital diplomas and micro-credentials in Romania, based on Europe’s emerging digital identity standards

EBSI4RO, a project implemented by renowned Romanian research institutions to create a blockchain ecosystem for education, faced the challenge of building a paperless, decentralized national system for verifiable digital diplomas and micro-credentials. They needed a solution aligned with the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI/ESSIF) that was easy to adopt. They chose to collaborate with walt.id and use its open source Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) products to address this challenge.

By utilizing walt.id's open source SSI products, the project team found the technology very easy to use and implement. This enabled them to quickly build knowledge and finalize a demo for issuing diplomas in cross-border scenarios. The measurable impact includes a plan to issue 50,000 micro-credentials for teachers by the end of March 2023. walt.id's solution provided an easy kick-start for the project, with the vendor's professional team offering critical support.
