Case Study: Croatian Agency for Science and Higher Education achieves verifiable digital diplomas with walt.id

How CroEduPass is using walt.id’s Self-Sovereign Identity products to create EBSI compliant diplomas for international students that are verifiable in Croatia and across borders

The Croatian Agency for Science and Higher Education faced a manual, paper-based process for verifying the diplomas of international students, which was costly and time-consuming for both the students and universities. As part of its CroEduPass programme, the agency sought a compliant digital solution to streamline this workflow and turned to walt.id for its Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) products.

Using walt.id's open source SSI Kit, the agency developed a system to issue and verify EBSI-compliant digital diplomas. This allows EU students to import their credentials digitally, eliminating the need for costly notarization and translation of paper documents. The project team successfully built the solution with expert support from walt.id and planned to roll it out for the 2022 enrollment period.
