How cheqd used verifiable credentials to boost web3 community engagement and reduce scams through interoperable reputation credentials

cheqd is a company building privacy-preserving payment infrastructure for Trusted Data economies. Their challenge was combating low-quality engagement, scams, and bots within web3 communities, as they sought a way to build portable and interoperable social reputation for users. To address this, cheqd partnered with vendor walt.id.

cheqd implemented walt.id’s SSI Kit to create Creds, a system of Verifiable Credentials. This solution provided a secure, private, and portable way for users to build a reputation across different platforms. The results include Creds.xyz, which offers seven credential types to verify roles, social profiles, achievements, and event attendance, successfully boosting community engagement and protecting members from fraud.
