How BCdiploma and walt.id enable educators like universities to adopt digital credentials based on Europe’s emerging digital identity standards

BCdiploma, a provider of blockchain-based digital credentials for over 100 universities, sought to adopt Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) standards to enhance its product offerings in line with Europe's emerging digital identity framework. The challenge was to integrate this complex new paradigm quickly and without significant internal development overhead.

By implementing walt.id's open source SSI infrastructure, BCdiploma was able to save an estimated six months of ramp-up time. This partnership allowed them to rapidly build expertise and extend their platform to issue and verify a wider range of educational credentials, positioning them at the forefront of the industry. The collaboration with walt.id also enabled BCdiploma to actively contribute to the development of open source libraries for the education sector.
