Wargaming and Wallarm WAF
Appsec statistics that make the difference

Wargaming, an award‑winning online game developer with about 5,500 employees and a global audience of roughly 200 million players, needed to secure a highly distributed infrastructure—more than 50 regions and roughly 3,000 nodes hosting websites, APIs, catalogs and shops—while avoiding excessive costs and rigid appliance models. After participating in Wallarm WAF beta in 2015, Wargaming selected Wallarm as its enterprise WAF provider to address GDPR risk, large-scale traffic, and the difficulty of swapping providers tied into NGINX deploys.

Wallarm implemented a hybrid WAF deployment (mix of blocking and monitoring) across Wargaming’s estate, providing dashboards for traffic/attack statistics and an active scanner that surfaces critical issues (e.g., expiring PHP, open ports). Wallarm’s detection even identified a vulnerability earlier than Wargaming’s internal team. The result: protection of ~3,000 nodes, faster vulnerability detection and remediation, better forecasting and resource allocation from Wallarm’s analytics, reduced GDPR exposure, and cost advantages compared with alternative cloud WAF providers.
