How Indoor Positioning Based Analytics and Smartphone Notifications Helped to Optimise the Conference Experience

Adobe Summit, the largest digital marketing conference in Europe held at ExCeL London, needed to optimise visitor flows, layouts and attendee engagement across a large, multi‑area venue. Walkbase provided a Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth indoor positioning and analytics solution (approximately 150 sensors covering 40 zones) to deliver real‑time people‑flow analytics and enable proximity‑based messaging in the Summit app.

Walkbase built the installation in under 48 hours and delivered real‑time heat maps, dwell times, zone popularity and location‑triggered app notifications. The system identified 8,151 Wi‑Fi‑enabled visitors (6,889 on Wednesday, 5,370 on Thursday), showed 56% attended both days, revealed that 28% visited the Adobe stand and that the Auditorium was the most popular zone, and allowed organisers to plan layouts, manage crowding and queues, measure session popularity and send personalised notifications — providing concrete, measurable improvements to the attendee experience.
