Ohio University's J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies faced significant limitations with its physical Cisco networking hardware. The infrastructure was expensive, occupied considerable space, and restricted the number of students that could be taught simultaneously. To overcome these physical and financial constraints and provide a more adaptable learning environment, the school turned to the VyOS network operating system.

The school implemented VyOS within its VMware environment, using it both on physical stations and as virtual instances. This solution, integrated with tools like GNS3, allowed students to emulate complex network architectures and engage in advanced practices like OSPF. The results for Ohio University were substantial, including improved scalability to educate more students and the ability for students to build full-fledged company networks.
