VSee Telemedicine Kit Brings Harvard Doctors to Gabon Villagers

Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Gabon needed a way to bring reliable medical care to remote villages where immunization outreach trips often became the only chance for consultations—sometimes an hour or more away by boat and served by only one pediatrician. VSee supplied its VSee telemedicine field kit (VSee telemedicine kit) to address this challenge, providing a rugged, lightweight, waterproof solution that could be tossed into a boat and taken into the field.

VSee’s kit was customized with device integrations and satellite connectivity (BGAN) to link village clinics to hospital-based doctors and distant specialists, enabling real-time ultrasounds, stethoscope audio, otoscope/dermatoscope images, and teleconsultations. Using VSee, clinicians connected Junke (about 40 minutes by boat) to Dr. Kokou at Albert Schweitzer Hospital and to a Harvard maternal–fetal specialist, delivering pediatric check-ups, clear stethoscope sound, and even a remote fetal consultation where the patient learned the baby’s sex—demonstrating improved access to diagnostics and specialist care.
