St. Joseph Community Health Foundation - Customer Case Study

St. Joseph Community Health Foundation led a coalition in Allen County, Indiana to address a surge of Burmese refugees who were frequently unable to communicate with clinicians and were sometimes turned away. To solve this gap the Foundation deployed VSee’s secure video calling technology to provide Internet-based medical interpretation services.

Using VSee, the low-cost program (initial 12-month budget $130,000) staffs two full-time and three part-time interpreters and offers on-demand interpretation 7 a.m.–6 p.m. weekdays. In year one the VSee-enabled service handled 6,886 calls for 795 distinct clients across 12 provider organizations, averaged 10–20 appointments daily (peaking at 40), lowered costs, improved patient flow and physician efficiency, and earned awards including the Indiana Perinatal Network Spirit of Service Communication Award and a Health Information Technology Award.
