Apollo Hospitals Establishes Telemedicine in the Himalayas

Apollo Hospitals tackled the challenge of delivering quality healthcare to remote communities in Himachal Pradesh by establishing high-altitude telemedicine stations in Kaza and Keylong. Facing extreme weather, limited road access and 13,000-foot elevation, the project used VSee low-bandwidth videoconferencing software to connect local sites with Apollo specialists across India.

VSee’s video platform enabled two satellite-connected telemedicine sites—one with a Tele-Consult room and one with a Tele-Emergency room equipped with diagnostic and emergency kits—so clinicians could triage and treat patients remotely. The program delivered nearly 200 consultations in May, stabilized two cardiac arrest patients (one subsequently referred), and achieved emergency specialist consults in as little as eight minutes, demonstrating faster triage and expanded specialist access thanks to VSee.
