Ocean Infinity maps the Endurance in 25,000 images with Voyis

The customer, Ocean Infinity, along with partners SEARCH, Deep Ocean Search, and the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust, faced the immense challenge of surveying and creating a detailed record of the Endurance shipwreck, which rests 3,000 meters deep in the frigid, dark waters of the Weddell Sea. Voyis provided its Insight Pro Underwater Laser Scanner and Observer Survey Series Pro Imaging System to accurately map and image the historically significant wreck site.

Voyis implemented a solution where its laser scanner generated an ultra-dense, real-time 3D point cloud model of the wreck, while its imaging system captured high-resolution, automatically color-corrected still images. The result was the creation of a highly detailed 3D model of the Endurance from 25,000 images, revealing the 44-meter wreck in stunning clarity for the first time as if the water had been drained away. This digital scan provides a permanent, accurate record of the ship that will never be raised, achieved through the collaboration of Voyis and its partners.
