Case Study: Laing O’Rourke keeps Manchester Airport running efficiently with Voyage Control

A Voyage Control Case Study

Preview of the Laing O’Rourke Case Study

Manchester Airport Managing Logistics Using Tech

Laing O’Rourke is delivering a £600m expansion at Manchester Airport, including a Terminal 2 extension, a new car park, road and landscaping upgrades, and two piers. The challenge was to keep the airport operating normally throughout construction while managing passenger flows, parking, logistics, and subcontractor deliveries. To support this, Laing O’Rourke used Voyage Control’s cloud-based logistics platform.

Voyage Control provided a real-time, SaaS delivery management system to coordinate loading areas, subcontractor bookings, traffic flow, and site access across desktop, tablet, and mobile. The platform helped the team restrict loading gate hours, reschedule deliveries instantly, reduce duplication of work, and monitor performance and CO2 data. According to Laing O’Rourke, office/admin users saved 3–4 hours each week, while the site maintained operational efficiency and better control over delivery compliance.
